Come and enjoy a run in a little well kept secret cul-de-sac of rolling hills and valleys with old world charm. Greta Valley is the perfect run that quietly delivers a great little race experience. If you are up for a change in scenery from the large main spotlight marathons, this would be the run for you and your outdoor friends.

Only just over 80 km from Christchurch, it is just past the wide open Waipara valley winery district. Head east towards the coast on a meandering peaceful rural road that offers the occasional glimpse of the sea.

This run is used as a warm-up training session for the famous Takahē To Akaroa road relay race that is celebrating it’s 79th race this year. For enthusiasts looking to log some miles there has been the odd runner who has done the whole circuit.

If you make a weekend of it you can explore the offerings of secret fossil treasures on the coastline, and a leisurely tasting session with some boutique wineries as you meander home slowly. If you haven’t been to this little gem of an area before, now is the time find out what you have missed out on – join up with some mates to come and explore this great little region. See you on Saturday 07 September 2019
